Queen Bee...or, um Dragon

Oooo, grrrls, you're gonna thank me for posting this one!
Sci fi romance The Last Queen by Christine Mckay is so kick ass you can't possibly pass on it. Check out the awesome blurb:

The Last QueenTop ten ways to know you're an alien Queen:

10. You can stop a runaway plane, crack glass and manipulate objects with the sheer strength of your will.
9. Under a black light, your skin phosphors with a webwork of scales.
8. Thirteen hunky shapeshifting male aliens can't wait to meet you, and in order to save their dying race, they all want to sleep with you.
7. A pack of supernatural hounds and their master, the Hunter, are trying to kill you. And they will not cease until you're dead.
6. A muscular, perfectly proportioned, male alien shapeshifts into a dragon before your eyes and speaks to you via mind speech. He thinks you're destined to be his mate.
5. Your alter ego is a dragon. And yes, you can fly.
4. The FBI thinks you're a terrorist and assigns a special paranormal task force to deal with you.
3. When you become pregnant, you find yourself carrying not one but twenty-four babies.
2. Did I mention your babies hatch from eggs?
1. Your name is Adrianne Harris and you're the last queen of an alien race, the Dragoon. Their fate is in your claws.

Warning! If you read the rockin' excerpt there's no turning back.

Manic Monday Good-bye

. Monday, May 30, 2011

It's Manic Monday and my sisters just left after a week long visit so I thought using the word "Good-bye" in my free write this morning might get me back on the tracks.

Good-bye. I say it again. And you two cry as if it is a sin, abandonment. You go teary-eyed. Two cry but I stay solid. Your visit was sublime and I am reminded of our childhood when we three sisters stood for each other side by side by side. We did not hide from home. So even through you two have flown back to other lives—your eyes liquid, wild—I remain unbroken, knowing what you forget every time we say good-bye: we three are inseparable, untouchable, irrepressible with linked arms and joined laughter or millions of arm-lengths apart. The joy we know as sisters knows no limits. When we part we are not apart.

Heart Search Birthday

Heart SearchI just realized that Heart Search by fave author Robin D. Owens is planned to be released on my birthday, August 2nd. Finally a reason to be happy about turning another year older. ♪Happy birthday to me!♫ The stars are aligning and I am claiming my magical, magnificent, manic life this year.

Here's the description of Heart Search:

Laev T'Hawthorn -- one of the highest nobles in the land -- must rebuild his life after a devastating mistake. He married a woman he believed was his HeartMate, only to learn she was a greedy social climber. She callously used him, stealing his family heirlooms. He is determined to reclaim all that he has lost -- beginning with his self-respect.

Abandoned at fifteen, Camellia Darjeeling values her independence above all. She's fought to establish her own businesses -- elegant tearooms -- only to have her father and uncle re-enter her life. They emotionally scourge her and extort money. Trusting men, even her HeartMate, is too risky.

When Laev and Camellia meet, they refuse to acknowledge that they are true HeartMates. After her shady relatives are implicated in the theft of Laev's property, Camellia and Laev's lives become ever more entangled bringing each to the brink of despair and passion...and a destiny they can no longer avoid.

Ooo, I am drooling...can't wait for my birthday present!

S stands for...Sexy

. Thursday, May 26, 2011

I just learned of the mysterious and stone cold sexy "S" through a friend of a friend. Check his story out:
Hermes Online (Siren Publishing Classic)
Left bruised and brokenhearted after a cruel breakup, Vivienne Bennet finds herself mired in a world of self-doubt. To her surprise, she receives an email that challenges her to rediscover the sensual woman she once was. Together Vivienne and the enigmatic man known only as S embark upon the world of anonymous Internet communication where suggestive emails lead to erotic chat, where cybersex leads to Skype, and C2C sends both into the arms of a love they’d believed lost forever.

Grrrls, you all know what a sucker I am for a great love story, and S...well, let's just say I couldn't get him outta my mind. Luckily, this grrl had an in that landed me an interview with enigmatic S. Check it:

Welcome to Meta Modo. Uh…do you prefer S or…?
S: Yes, S is fine for now.

So S, tell me a little about yourself.
S: (chuckles) I’m rather dull actually.

Dull? That’s not what I’ve heard. Rumor has it you’re quite the sexy man.
S: Careful, you’ll make me blush. (He grins) Well, let me see. I live and work in Chicago. I’m an architect there. I have a dog named Roscoe...

Are you currently in a relationship?
S: I hope to be soon. I’ve met an amazing woman online. We’ve only spoken through email though I hope in time her comfort will grow enough to allow for chat. I sense she’s been hurt badly in the past and is most likely afraid of being hurt again because she tends to hold back… I’d love to talk with her in real time instead of waiting for emails to go back and forth.

Oh? What is it that makes her an amazing woman?
S: Her extremely intelligent mind. To me the most sensual attribute a woman has is her mind. V is different from just about anyone I’ve ever known. She’s lovely. No, more than that. She’s both artist and art. In those emails she chooses her palette of words carefully and paints her descriptions with such precision. Because of that detail, I see every inch of her in my mind’s eye, I see every action she describes. More than that, I see the wildly sensuous creature she is inside.

Care to expand that thought?
S: I’m a man as any other. (His green eyes sparkle) Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy all the physical gifts a woman cares to share as deeply as I enjoy returning the pleasure. Honestly Jocelyn, it’s a struggle to think of anything else some days! To me, a sensual woman’s detail-oriented mind is absolutely fascinating. It draws me in and ignites all else.

Manic Monday Pink

. Monday, May 23, 2011
0 comments

One this bright sun-shiny Monday I free wrote with the purpose of creating a story (beginning, middle, end) in 150 words or less with the word "pink" as inspiration. Now of course I went waaaaaay over (200 words+) so I had to edit it down, but the whole process took less than 30 minutes and was so much fun.

Her Hat

Pink peaches grew on her head, looking like a flamboyant hat made famous by old-ish church ladies with crisp dresses and sturdy heels. But Savanna was an angular, six-year-old child who looked four due to constant hunger.

When she’d first noticed a cluster of hard, scab-like bumps on her scalp, she’d thought they were the aftermath of a recent punch to the head from her father, Jim. Bumps and bruises were commonplace in her little life, but the fragrant blossoms that grew to sweet peaches were singular magic.

Other eyes assumed they were an odd hat for an odd child. But the yummy fruit was real and grew back bigger and better as Savanna grew stronger and healthier. A girl who one day might just grow into an old-ish, crisp dress-wearing church lady with a flamboyant hat.

Fred's Story

. Wednesday, May 18, 2011

Just heard about a new sci fi romance! Woop! Woop!

Fred’s Story by D.B. Story (ISBN: 9781609824839) is about 30,000 words--so a short novel or a long short story. Either way it looks exactly like my kinda book as long as I don't look at the book cover, which, as you can see for yourself, is way WEIRD (and not in a good way).

So forget the cover and check out the blurb below that caught my attention with the robots, sex toys, and a happily ever after ending. Yep, I'm all a-purrrr.

Fred is either the most unfortunate young man in the world, or the luckiest one that you will ever meet. When his fairytale marriage to his equally rich and socially prominent childhood sweetheart was cruelly smashed to pieces in front of him on their honeymoon because she met a real prince and figured that she could trade-up in the matrimony game, Fred could only slink back home to lick his wounds in seclusion. What he never counted on were his mother's friends, and their fembot gifts to help him through his darkest hours. While it would prove to be a learning experience at first with some missteps along the way, it is a post-modern fairytale showing how redemption can occur where we most want to see it happen. (This story contains M/F sex with multiple robots, the ultimate sex toys.)

This one's going on my buy list.

Blushing with Blush

. Monday, May 16, 2011

Grrrls I'm loving Ellora's Cave Blush (mainstream romance) line. Ever since my erotic romance short, Paradise Moon, was released a couple months ago, I've been checking out the other Blush authors and loving every book I've read so far.
Gilded Folly
Gilded Folly by N.D. Hansen-Hill is another one of those books. Sci fi romance at its best.

What's NOT at its best is the book blurb describing Gilded Folly. In fact, if I hadn't read the excerpt, I wouldn't have purchased the book; the blurb is that bad...and the excerpt is that good.

You can purchase a print book trough Amazon for $18.99 (no idea why the cost is so high) OR you can go directly to the publisher and purchase the ebook for a reasonable $5.24 (guess which choice I made).

Manic Monday Clown

It's Manic Monday again and aren't I in a fan-f-ing-tastic mood. LOL. I even picked "clown" as my inspirational word and STILL ended up grumping my free write. What can I say, the whole point of me doing this on Mondays is to help me move past my beginning-of-the-week-blues so here's my manic free write:

Sad Clown by James Cane

I listened for her laughter. None came. And I turned insane in the sad silence, wondering at the void my expectations created. I hated her a little for letting me down, for not being the clown I needed her to be. To set me free from the compact car ride, languishing on hot cowhide, crisping in the sun. I'm on the run from ruin of my own making and baking like bacon. This little piggy went, "waa, waa, waa," until all she could do was moan about a blown-down home and a girl who made her sorry.

Right, so I know the last thing you'd expect from Mimi Modo (the nieces call me Mimi) is a post about a couple of young adult (YA) books, but what you don't know is that I have 5 nieces who all love to read. So when I received a couple of YA's in the mail, I read them, surprisingly enjoyed them, and then passed them on to the 5 nieces who all devoured them in a matter of days.

Doing the Moon Walk

. Friday, May 6, 2011

When I read a great new sci fi romance I have to share because there's so few of them out there. Susan Sizemore's Walking on the Moon is one of those books I gotta let you know about, especially since it's from Ellora's Cave who is known for their erotica line not their romance line (called Blush).

Here's what Walking on the Moon is about:

Walking on the MoonAward-winning chili maker Claudia Cameron comes to Greece in search of adventure and romance—and is kidnapped by a crew of hungry, time-traveling space miners in search of a cook.

Instead of a Mediterranean holiday, she finds herself walking on the moons of Mars. But once she's shanghaied on board the HATTON, Claudia must contend with not only the alien environment, real live aliens, the ship's hardhearted captain, but also her growing attraction to sexy ship's officer Denys DuChamp.

Denys is on a mission from a war-torn future. He's determined to do anything to save his time—no matter what. If it means keeping Claudia—who continues to refer to him as an "alien lizard terrorist"—prisoner, so be it. Even if it means destroying their burgeoning love—so be it. Denys can be as stubborn and pigheaded as a bulldog when he's on a mission.

However, Claudia isn't exactly the helpless prisoner type. She has a few tricks up her proverbial sleeve that come in mighty handy when she has to save her world—and her man—from the evil alien Sirens.

Manic Monday Brain

. Monday, May 2, 2011

It's Manic Monday again my mighty minions. Time to free write on the word "brain."

Brain drain. No sleep. I weep to think of...any thing and wing it when asked, "How are you?" My frame of mind is hanging by a broken nail as I fail to find the kind of clarity I usually take for granted. Granted, this is not my first time losing time to ghost-abused sheets. The souls of my feet, tired from walking through clouded consciousness. I return to bed with my broken head. And as I wander through a waking dream a scream paints my toenails red, staining the bed that's banging at my brain.
